Re: 104 New DH8D Flights Added

This is really exciting! I spend a lot of time in Alaska, but those routes are starting to lose their intrigue...for now. I gotta get back from Iceland, then I'll grab the Dash! Woohoo!!

Fuel and Route Planning

I recently returned from obtaining my FAA Aircraft Dispatcher license at Jeppesen Academy (I've decided to change careers) and it has me thinking very differently about the way I plan routes and fuel. Which brings up a few questions I'd like some thoughts on. Previously, I would use the provided blo...

IFR Question

The other day I was flying into Kodiak (PADQ) with the CRJ7 and, due to weather had a go/no-go moment on arrival. The ceiling was 600' and the winds were 040 @ 19kts. The only published approach was for runway 25, which would have exceeded the max tailwind for the CRJ7. I noticed circling minimums a...

Saitek FIP

I finally caved and added a Saitek FIP to my home setup. And while not the most expansive upgrade, it has certainly added some key functionality. It is now possible for me to make approaches with nothing but terrain on my monitor. Many of the keyboard assignments I had mapped to a Tartarus pad next ...

Go Around!

I am not sure why, but I rarely execute a "Go Around" in FSX. I recognize the importance and have performed the maneuver in real-world flight training and, at times, based on real conditions on approach. Why is it that I always want to "stick it" in FSX? Sometimes I think it may ...

Re: Flight Schedule Changes

Thanks, Dave! These all sound like great upgrades. I love the idea off added prop flights and would enthusiastically fly any added Alaska routes. I am going to try some of the Denver flights along with the new Cargo routes this weekend. Keep it up!!! This is exciting :D

Re: Fuel Oddities

I think I just figured out the question when looking at the file library. I am seeing the 800C repaint and the 747s *woohoo*!
I will start using the 800c in Alaska tonight. When do the new cargo routes start coming online?
Thanks, Dave.

Re: Fuel Oddities

???
Not sure I understand the question :D

I am currently using a decent 737-700C I found online, but it is a conversion from the previous MFS, so the virtual cockpit is no good.

That was it, Dave. Eesh. I'm not sure why it started doing it now, but that's the way it goes. Now I have some other issues to fix. Harrumph!!!

Re: Fuel Oddities

Ok, now I feel stupid!
I will look this evening. I'm not sure if it is happening when I load the flight from FSX menu or once I load plan in FMS. I will see, but that would be an interesting way of doing it from now on.
Thanks, Dave!

Fuel Oddities

In recent weeks I have been having a strange issue with fueling. Typically I set fuel levels in the initial menu where you set weather, flight plan, etc. I type in my calculated levels for fuel and payload and then click 'fly now'. Then the flight loads and off I go. I noticed a few months back that...

Viva Las Vegas!!!

I flew into my home town of Las Vegas this afternoon and captured this snapshot. I took my wife around the Hoover Dam on my first flight as a private pilot nearly three years ago (second attached pic). There is lots of traffic in the area with the Bravo above you and the tourists copters below. Beau...

The Ever-Flexible FSX

I recently purchased the Razer Tartarus to try with FSX and love it so far. It has 15 fully programmable keys that can store single keystrokes (Q or W), do multiple keys (shift+S), or store a series of key strokes into macros. I use it for things like altimeter settings and engine start/shutdown, as...

Re: FMC Panel Retrofit

I also like this retrofit because I can still use my Saitek panels, though I am sure you can build out use with payware with FSUIPC, but that's a lot to learn :)

Re: FMC Panel Retrofit

There is no getting around the feel of payware, but if you don't mind freeware and don't have the dollars for better processing, then this adds a nice touch. I also use Accufeel for some sound and turbulence enhancements. I was running quad core with Windows on core 1 and flight simulator on cores 2...

Re: FMC Panel Retrofit

I have tried tweaking the daylights out of FSX and my computer with little success on that specific issue, though I have since migrated to Windows 7 from Vista since I last used PMDG or Level-D, so it may be worth another shot. I am fairly happy with where I'm at, however, but would be curious if it...

FMC Panel Retrofit

There is a great retrofit panel product out there which adds a huge amount of functionality to default and freeware aircraft (link below). The biggest value for me is the inclusion of a flight management computer. I loved uising the PMDG and Level-D products mostly becuase I could alter my flight pl...

Re: How can I Make a Smooth Landing?

The practical test standards for your private license requires the ability to perform slow flight, wherein you are maintaining heading and altitude while just above stall speed. This is to help you understand what the controls 'feel' like at approach speeds. You also perform stalls, not to learn to ...
